Unceded Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Territor : At 6am on Tuesday June 16th, more than 50 Vancouver Police Department officers arrived at the CRAB Park/Namegans tent city and announced that anyone who did not leave the camp will be arrested. They did not announce a charge.
Supreme Court Justice Hinckson awarded the Vancouver-Fraser Port Authority with an injunction to displace the CRAB Park/Namegans tent city, with a deadline of leaving this past Saturday June 13th. The approximately 100 people who depend on the camp as their home and sanctuary from constant displacement responded by moving to a lot next door from the parking lot covered by the injunction.
The VPD eviction of the camp from the second lot was not ordered by any judge or court.
Once they surrounded the camp, a supporter heard a VPD officer announce: “Any person wishing to leave may do so. If you require housing, make it known to an officer. If you need your property stored it can be tagged at the VPD property office.”
The police are displacing 100 unhoused people from a place of sanctuary to full homelessness without announcing any legal reason, with pure force.
